While previously promising that will not use any fossil fuel, Tesla confirmed investors that it’s Gigafactory 1 facility in Nevada would be using 100% sustainable energy by leveraging the world’s largest solar rooftop array (along with solar ground installations). According to company, the solar rooftop array is about 7 times larger than the largest rooftop solar system installed today– an 11.5MW installation in India. In addition, the company said its currently constructing an on-site recycling facility that will safely reprocess all types of Tesla battery cells, modules, and packs, into various metal products for reuse in new cells.
