Auto sales saw a 19 percent gain for 2016 with a record 1.6 million units sold, bolstered by a 20 percent gain in December compared to the prior year. The dealers association and the industry association said that 192,567 vehicles were sold in December, with Nissan an General Motors leading the way with a 25 percent market share (just over 400,000 unit sales) and a 19 percent share (309,000 sales), respectively, according to Automotive News. Volkswagen was third with a 15 percent share (247,000 sales).
