Intel joins autonomous driving revolution, buys 15% stake in HERE

Intel has announced that it’s buying a 15 percent stake in Here, the mapping company spun out from Nokia and bought by Audi, BMW and Daimler. Intel said it will work to build a new high-definition mapping platform for self-driving car with location services but subtly implied that Intel chips may be used in the future vehicles as the platform will require “significantly more capable in-vehicle computational power” with “the creation of a universal, always up-to-date digital location platform that spans the vehicle, the cloud and everything else connected.”
