Nvidia said last night in Las Vegas that it is working with Audi to develop a self-driving car that will not require a human being to supervise or take the wheel on short notice. Expected to be on the roads by 2020, Audi claims that the car really would drive itself and would utilize AI-based deep learning within the car for accelerated learning. According to the report, the announcement was notable because of the timelines, “Nvidia and Audi have drawn a hard deadline for three years from now.” The keynote comments were made as an Audi-Nvidia prototype based on Audi’s Q7 car was driving itself around the lot beside the convention center. Audi also said it would be using Nvidia hardware and software in what it called “the world’s first Level 3 car,” which can do all the driving most of the time but requires that a human be ready to take over.
